BUSINESS REPORT OF YEARS 2001-2007

WATER FOR LIFE

ASSOCIATION

Following the symposium on hydraulics and water systems in (Ibadan, Nigeria, 2000), representatives of local authorities in Benin, including that of Pahou (districts of Ouidah, 3000 people) contacted the Association WFL for the development of water infrastructure to improve water distribution to the people.

In 2004, a partnership agreement was signed with the Village of Pahou; which has been renewed following the change of leaders in the municipal council.

WFL missions were extended to Avlékété village (2500 people), a village south of Pahou with in between them a lagoon. The distribution of fresh water in Avlékété depends directly on Pahou; a water scheme must be put into place between these 2 towns.

For several years the water supply in these villages are prone to problems of organic pollution.

WFL has therefore undertaken an awareness about diseases related to water on the water cycle at the local scale. Meanwhile, WFL launched a study to establish the necessary infrastructure for the recovery of wastewater and the cleaning up of the town.

From 2009, a second site began in the area of Porto Novo, in the area of Akpro Missérété following the request of the village authority to establish an irrigation area. The WFL is working towards implementing the request by installing solar panels using an electric pump and making sure this project is in a development scheme within the local economy to put up a durable the systems in place (opportunity for local people to get standard equipments and thus be able to take over their maintenance).
